Aquatic Therapy

Sensory Integration

Improves Proprioceptive Input

The properties of water allow for increased proprioceptive input. People have improve gait, strength and joint function, as well as improved body awareness.

Strength

Improves Muscle Strength and Endurance

Viscosity of water provides resistance for strength training. Buoyancy of water reduces gravitational pull and lessens compressive forces overall which allows for functional movement that may not be able to be performed on land.

Flexibility/
Muscle Tone

Improves Muscle Length and Calms Muscle Tone

Warm water facilitates muscle relaxation and increases peripheral circulation; stimulates body awareness, balance, and trunk stability.
